WHS Employees Recognized by SJSD

Mr. Gosney, an educator of 18-years, won the district-wide Teacher of the Year! Mr. Gosney likes to spend time with his family, read books, and travel He engages scholars in learning about history and government in an interactive way using video clips, games, research projects and presentations, and Kahoot quizzes. He also supports intramural athletics during WIN Time. It is thanks to Devon that lots of "behind the scenes" things get accomplished and we are grateful for his steadfast commitment to the Raider Team.

Nyjah Woods recently interviewed Gail Lee, the WHS Employee of the Year. He learned that Gail has worked at WHS for almost 29-years as the Financial Secretary. She is originally from Peridot, Arizona, on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. Her favorite hobbies are walking, reading, playing board games, and her favorite food is frybread and beans. She would like to travel to Hawaii. According to Principal Schaefer, "There is absolutely no way we could operate as smoothly as we do without Gail's consistent and friendly support! In 1st semester alone, she helped with finances for 41 home events and 70 trips. Her efforts with fee waivers, meal money, daily operations, purchasing and receiving, and customer service are exemplary!"

Nyjah also interviewed Irene Livingston because she was recognized by SJSD as the longest working team member. Her origin is in Montezuma Creek, ever since her Grandpa Whitehorse helped the school get built. Her clans are Bit’ahnii, Tł’ááshchí’í, and Naaki dine’e—an identity she holds with pride. Her hobbies are relaxing, exercising, resting, baking, making pastry, and spending time with her family. Her favorite team is the Broncos so she was very excited for the Super Bowl.

Raider Mathematicians Compete

On March 24, fifteen (15) Raider Mathematicians travelled to Snow College for the Math Contest. Math Teacher Sharmita Benally said, "The 7th, 8th, and 9th grade scholars were confident in taking a test that challenged their math skills! Each scholar was on their best behavior by conducting themselves in the Raider Way. The scholars learned that what we practiced in modeling mathematics was definitely put into effect." Once the test concluded, the group took an engineering tour.
